Expanding Club Baseball at ASU!
2016 represents the fourth year for a Division II club baseball team at Arizona State University. As one of the largest universities in the nation, the National Club Baseball Association (http://www.clubbaseball.org/div2/default.aspx) granted admittance for an additional club baseball team to compete in the District VIII – South Conference (Division II). 2013 marked the inaugural year for the ASU Division II Club Baseball team.
As the 2nd team at ASU in the NCBA we are registered as a Division II team. Our team will compete against other District VIII – West conference members such as: Grand Canyon University, California Miramar-San Diego and Cal State San Marcos. In addition, we will have the opportunity to compete against community colleges and other non-conference club teams throughout Division I and Division II.
Let’s Play Ball!
Our season consists of a fall and a spring. Fall is designated as the “unofficial season” in which we play with an expanded roster and scrimmage other teams in the NCBA as well as community colleges. Spring is our “official season,” which requires a condensed roster. We will compete in conference play and are eligible for postseason play.
In the Line-up
Tryouts will be held for both the fall and spring seasons. Although there are tryouts for both seasons, playing in the fall will increase a player’s chances of securing a spot on the spring roster. Players must be enrolled at ASU full time (12+ credits) and have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in order to be eligible to play in the Spring. Please check the Home Page and Schedule for tryout information, as it will be posted when the dates and locations are secured.
Unfortunately, fielding a competitive baseball team isn’t always cheap. As a club team we are self-funded, which means that there will be a fee for players who make the fall and/or spring teams. The fee amount for each specific season will be given to the players before tryouts and will be due once tryouts are completed, at the start of our first practice. Traditionally, the fall season is less expensive than the spring season; however, we will do all that we can to keep it as affordable as possible for everyone involved.
Stepping Up to the Plate
This team is for those student athletes who want to feed their passion for playing baseball while pursuing their degrees at an incredible university like ASU. Our goal is to create a competitive baseball environment and provide an opportunity for players to play baseball at a higher level. We believe that baseball should be fun as well as competitive. We will strive toward success as both athletes and individuals through hard work, respect, teamwork and dedication. Let’s Play Ball!
